Author Talk: Dr. Don Grossnickle – My Maja: A Grandson’s Tribute

April 9, 2022 @ 5:00 am - 6:00 am

My Maja, A Swedish-American Proud Grandson’s Tribute by Chicago’s Dr. Don Grossnickle

Maja, a young roaring twenties Swedish adventurer set sail on a luxury steamship to New York and on to Chicago in 1922 for a visit to relatives. Maja fell in love and spent the rest of her life pursuing the American Dream. Adversity challenges were extreme for a widowed single mother of three balancing long hours as a night nurse and running a boarding house. Ups and downs while being alone in a hostile struggling America during the Great Depression almost killed her. Maja claimed her Swedish upbringing, character and faith carried the day. History has not taken note of the great guts, gumption, perseverance, determination of Swedish women immigrants. The book, My Maja,-is meant to awaken history and to keep Maja’s, “framåtanda” fully alive forever.

Come and chat with Don Grossnickle about the Swedish-American Spirit living in each of us today. To register for this event you an email [email protected] or call 773.728.8111. Fika (coffee and treats) will be available for purchase.
