About this event
Dr. Rhonda Sherrod has written a compelling collection of beautiful essays addressing some of the understated pain in the Black community, especially as it relates to women and girls. She documents her own childhood trauma history—that is shared by far too many Black women and girls—as well as traumas inflicted upon the Black community as a whole.

Her book, Surviving, Healing, and Evolving: Essays of Love, Compassion, Healing, and Affirmation for Black People, out this month includes the essay, “Still Enchanted After All These Years” . This essay focuses on the history of Black Chicago—from DuSable to Harold Washington—and how Washington’s electrifying victory as the first Black mayor helped empower Barack Obama, who was a community organizer in Chicago when Harold was mayor.
