Trickster Cultural Center: Farmers Market

October 30, 2020 @ 2:00 am - 8:00 am

The Governor’s Executive Order has classified farmers markets as an essential business, so Schaumburg’s market operations will shift from an event where the community is encouraged to gather to visit with neighbors, family and friends, to an “In and Out” market. The “In and Out” market concept addresses concerns related to the COVID-19 virus such as: social distancing, crowd management, and product safety.

You’ll still find all the locally grown fruits and vegetables, seafood, meats, flowers, plants and gourmet cheeses sold by the farmers who produce them. And, the market will continue to feature decadent baked goods, olives, preserves, hot sauces, coffee, tea and knife sharpening services.

Your favorite vendors will be back, but the market will look different this year and will function similar to a grocery store:

  • All market patrons, vendors, staff and volunteers will be required to wear face coverings at all times.

  • This year’s market will have only one entrance and one exit both containing hand sanitizing stations. Patrons are asked to sanitize their hands before entering and upon leaving the market.

  • The time-period from 7 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. will be designated exclusively for shoppers over the age of 65.

  • No pets or bikes will be permitted.

  • The number of shoppers allowed into the market at one time will be limited and determined by the Market Manager and monitored by staff and volunteers.

  • Patrons will be asked to limit household attendance at the market, when possible.

  • Patrons will be expected to maintain six feet of distance between other individuals both inside the market and in the waiting line outside the market.

  • Food consumption and sampling at the market will be prohibited.

  • Online ordering from vendors in advance will be encouraged and pick-up onsite will be available.

  • Customers should not touch any products at a booth until purchased and bagged by the vendor. Where possible, vendors will provide a designated person for handling food and a second person for handling purchasing transactions.

  • Customers using reusable shopping bags must place purchased products inside the bag themselves and wash or sanitize bags at home after every use.

  • Cash transactions will be accepted, but customers are encouraged to pay with debit or credit cards.

  • Entertainment and community programming has been cancelled.

While you’ll still be able to purchase products on-site, many vendors are accepting online orders for delivery at the market. Visit the interactive farmer’s market map where you can click on your favorite vendor’s webpage to place an online purchase.
